KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian government is intensifying efforts to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a core component of the national education system.
With increasing demand for skilled workers in industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, construction, and digital technology, TVET is now being recognised as a vital pathway for youth employment and national growth.
Under the 12th Malaysia Plan, several initiatives are being implemented, including upgrading TVET institutions, improving industry collaboration, and aligning training modules with real-world skills.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek recently stated that TVET graduates enjoy strong job prospects, with many earning competitive salaries upon entering the workforce. “We must remove the outdated perception that TVET is a second-choice option. It is a first-class education path for those with the passion and skills,” she said.
As Malaysia moves toward becoming a high-income nation, investing in TVET is seen as a strategic move to future-proof the workforce and reduce youth unemployment.
The annual Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) 2025 games have brought new energy and excitement to the local sports scene, with young athletes showcasing incredible talent and determination.
Held at Stadium Larkin, the week-long event features competitions across multiple disciplines, including athletics, badminton, sepak takraw, and swimming. Over 5,000 student-athletes from all 14 Malaysian states are participating this year.
One of the highlights came from 15-year-old Nur Aina from Terengganu, who broke the MSSM record in the 100m sprint with a time of 11.92 seconds. Meanwhile, Selangor’s Under-18 football team dazzled crowds with a thrilling 3-2 win over Penang in the semi-finals.
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who officiated the opening ceremony, praised the participants and called for greater investment in grassroots sports. “These young athletes are the future of Malaysian sports. With the right support, they can go on to shine at SEA Games, Asian Games, and even the Olympics,” she said.
The MSSM remains a crucial platform for talent identification and development, inspiring a new generation of sports heroes across Malaysia.
