Digital Transformation and Its Impact on Arabic Language Evolution in Social Media

Abstract: This research paper explores the impact of digital transformation on the evolution of the Arabic language, focusing on how social media platforms have reshaped linguistic practices. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, including content analysis of social media posts, interviews, and surveys, this study examines the rise of new linguistic forms such as Arabizi (Arabic written in Latin script), code-switching between Arabic and English, and the increasing dominance of regional dialects over Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) in informal communication. The findings indicate that while social media fosters linguistic innovation and adaptability, it also raises concerns about the potential erosion of formal Arabic language skills, particularly among younger generations. Additionally, the study highlights how hybridization of dialects and the use of visual elements like emojis contribute to a dynamic, evolving linguistic landscape. This paper discusses the broader sociocultural implications of these changes, emphasizing the tension between linguistic preservation and modernization in the Arab-speaking world. It concludes with recommendations for future research on the long-term effects of digital transformation on Arabic language education and cultural identity.
