Malaysian higher education consists of both public and private institutions. There are three types of state institutions: public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges in one group, and public colleges in the other. Malaysian public universities are well-known public institutions that deliver undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as pre-university foundation studies and diploma programs. Certificate and diploma programs in engineering, commerce, information technology and communication, hospitality and services are available at polytechnics and community colleges. Via short-term part-time courses in engineering, commerce, information technology and communication, hospitality and services, community colleges offer training and expertise to the local community.
